Common questions regarding the Apache Indians:
- Where is the Apache Reservation?
There are two Apache Reservations located in Arizona. White Mountain Reservation is four hours out of Phoenix and San Carlos Reservation is 2 hours out of Phoenix.
- What is the Sunrise Dance?
It is a sacred ceremonial dance held for young Apache women.
- How do Apaches live today?
Tribal members work in many different occupations. Many work for tribal enterprises such as FATCO (Fort Apache Timber Company), the Fish Hatchery, and others. Work is also available for Tribal members at the ski resort, the Tribal government, the Cultural Center and other public offices. In short, Apaches live and work the same as their non-Apache neighbors.
- Can the Apaches leave the Reservation?
Yes. Tribal members are not confined within reservation boundaries. They are able to travel freely throughout the country just as any other person can.
