The reservation consists of 24,680 acres which were once considered ancestral territory of nomadic bands of yavapai, Mohave-Apache, and Apache Indians who hunted and gathered food in Central Arizona and the Mogollon Rim areas.
The Verde River spans the length of the reservation, providing cool refuge from hot summer days in the Phoenix Metro area. Located appx. 30 miles from Phoenix, the reservation borders Fountain Hills, Rio Verde, and Scottsdale Arizona.
The tribe operates a casino, Fort McDowell Gaming Center.
The tribe is noted for basketry and produces JoJo Bean Oil (retail).
