St Johns Arizona

The shortest and most scenic route from Albuquerque to Phoenix is through St. Johns, which is surrounded by tourist and visitor destinations.

Within an hour's drive from St. Johns are the Apache, Zuni, and Navajo reservations, the Hopi Reservation is a short distance further, Raven Site Indian Ruins, (active archeological site), the Petrified Forest National Park, and recreational activities at Lyman Lake State Park, including boating, water skiing, fishing, hiking, and camping (RV and tent). A small herd of buffalo (American Bison) are located at the entrance to Lyman Lake.

Another recreational area, within an hour's drive of St. Johns Arizona, is the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest which contains primitive areas, rivers, lakes, and streams. It is ideal for backpacking and hiking and is popular for hunting and fishing.

Of particular interest in the St Johns area are prehistoric dwellings, petroglyph trails and archeological programs for excavation opportunities.

Petrified Log and Moonscaped Hills by Derek DavisPetrified Forest National Park, about 43 miles Northwest of St. Johns contains the largest and most spectacular forest of petrified logs on earth. Adjacent to the Petrified Forest is the famous Painted Desert. The Blue Hills, about three miles North of St. Johns, have interesting formations (layers) of blue, red and white painted desert clay. Agate beds and dinosaur remains have been found in the area.

Within 15 minutes of St. Johns, golfers can enjoy 18 holes at Concho Valley Golf Course, one of six courses in the White Mountains area. The golf course is open year round.
