Arizona's White Mountain region offers an abundance of sports throughout
the entire year. Winter is a special season in the White Mountains with an
emphasis on skiing. The beautiful Sunrise Ski Area, owned and operated
by the White Mountain Apache Tribe boasts three mountains, eleven lifts,
and more than sixty trails for skiing. With a new quad lift in the 1997-98
season, Sunrise can get you to the top of the mountain in half the time!
Family fun and winter recreation are available at any of the tubing
areas found throughout the White Mountains. The Pinetop-Lakeside area boasts
more than 60 miles of trail systems, some of those are open for
cross-country during the winter season. Williams Valley Winter
Recreation area, near Alpine Arizona offers a great hill for tubing as well as
cross-country trails and snowmobile areas.
Ice fishing is available at Nelson Reservoir, near Springerville, as
well as several other locations throughout the White Mountains. (Great
fishing is always available in the White Mountains!)
The White Mountains even boasts golf as a winter recreation. The
18-hole Concho Valley Golf Course, near St. Johns, offers year-round play. Also
located near St. Johns is Lyman Lake. Unlike many higher mountain lakes
which may freeze over, Lyman Lake is available for boating, sailing year
round (too cold for swimming though!)
Enjoy your visit to the White Mountains, you'll want to return to this
HoT SpoT destination often!
